The president’s words on Kim Jong Un have gotten a lot of backlash, particularly because of his call to the dictator to step down.
“Kim Jong Un, if he utters one more meaningless word, will be hanged.
The nuclear weapons test is a total and complete waste of time and money,” Trump said in an address to the nation Monday.
His remarks prompted criticism from the North’s human rights activist group, Human Rights Watch, which said the comments were “unacceptable.”
But Trump’s comments are not the first time he has made disparaging remarks about the North Korean leader.
In January, Trump said he “would have liked” to see the leader killed, but said the U.S. is “not a great friend of China.”
